a possible profession switch. I currently have my own small business and it is insanely stressful, and long, long hours, 12-13 hour days are pretty common, 6 days a week, and often half days on Sundays, in an industry that is overall not going a good direction.

There are 3 insurance agents in my building complex, Farmers, State Farm, etc. They all seem to be showing up at 8 and leaving at 5. (versus my show up at 7 and work until 6 and then work after the family goes to bed) One of the agents has no staff, none. He leaves a LOT of afternoons to go golfing, takes several hour lunches and just wants to come hang out an my office. He has asked many times if I have anything he can help with because he is so bored with nothing to do in his own business since everybody is pretty much on autopilot and they just renew their policies, and the money comes in, he helps with some people doing new cars or whatever but in general just says he is so bored. I've asked him if he isnt interested in marketing to grow bigger, and he says no, he is able to solidly support his family. He has so much time that he takes naps, watches a lot of movies at work, etc.

Obviously it would take some time to start and grow a business but this guy does almost no work and freely admits it. He is in his early 40's. I am stressed to the point of throwing up at nights and not sleeping much, doctor says on track for a heartattack at a young age if stress level doesnt go down a lot....and so I'm starting to investigate career changes. Thoughts on insurance agent anyone? (the idea of selling and retaining paying customers year after year vs one time sales is really attractive to me)
