My dad is an insurance agent, and your first few years will be the most tough
years of your entire career. You're going to have to sell and build your book. You will be running in the red for a bit and better have some savings. And it will be a learning curve as you learn to manage a business and employees. However, after a few years, and if you successfully build yourself a brand and a customer base, which means you will have to do a ton of networking and be that type of person... If you spend a few years of that and are successful, it becomes that job with your own hours and a little more freedom. My father now goes on vacation several times a year and goes into the office really whenever he wants. Even then, though, it's not easy managing an entire office by yourself.

Definitely feel free to do it if you have the resources to go for a bit without much cash flow, if you are outgoing and can network/market a ton to grow your business for several years, and if you are willing to put in the hours for it and take that much responsibility into your own hands. You will get more freedom, eventually, if that is what you want.
