It makes scheduling a lot easier to have teams paired up. If they are in the
same geographical area then it can help reduce travel expenses as well due to easier travel going from one campus to the other. It doesn't matter for sports that only play once/week, but for sports that will play Thursday/Saturday or something of the sort it can help cut down costs.
