prominent programs to other conferences, and they have seriously hamstrung the Big12 with their TV network. The conference goes on because the other schools (except Oklahoma) are happy being Texas lap dogs. It looks a whole lot like 2010 when the other three left. Without a significant change, Oklahoma will be out of there.
how would BYU fit into this power structure? And is this hope their whole plan? I would rather see BYU remain independent, or form a conference of colleagues. Becoming a toady for Texas in an unbalanced and precarious conference does not seem like a good move.
It's like a friend that has been in love with this guy since they were at BYU. They dated, but he would never commit. It's been 20 years, and they're both still unmarried. She's been waiting on him all this time. He keeps playing the field and occasionally coming back to her, but always leaving again. She should have moved on long ago, but she pinned her dream of a family on the hope that this guy would finally decide to commit to her. What a waste.
I feel like BYU is doing the same thing. Rather than moving on to possibly less ideal alternatives that could still work and provide long term stability and success, they keep waiting around for Texas (and the Big 12) to invite them to be an inferior in their conference. How long do they wait? When do you finally say, "Times up. Maybe WE should make a move rather than sitting around and waiting in no man's land."
Maybe I'm wrong, but it looks like being associated with Texas is a mess, unless you want to take the back seat . . . . and when has BYU ever been willing to do that? (And why should they?)
