We have taken this step.
I had a number of conversations with the Department of Finance that made me uneasy enough to where I did reach out and hire a lawyer. This is something we should have probably done four years ago, but fortunately we were just using our own funds and we didn't have an issue. However, now that we are trying to decide about outside loans and funding--we did hire a lawyer and actually had him draft up all of the "gotchas" we need to be aware of (soliciting funds, the number of loan contracts we can enter annually, etc...). I probably should mention that we met with our first lawyer (a guy we knew and liked from our ward) and we quickly decided we needed someone focused on our business and connected laws for our state. We assessed quickly that we knew more from our research on state laws than our family friend and lawyer did.
