From what I've read from actual vets is that "Platoon" does a lousy job at
recreating the average Vietnam soldier. However, the film that apparently nails it was "We Were Soldiers." Platoon focused on everything that was wrong with the War. A lack of discipline, pot smoking, unprepared rejects fighting a meaningless war. We Were Soldiers portrays it right. Well led, post World War II, Korea experienced commanders. Disciplined troops. We won most battles. Fought honorably.
