off very little emissions (PZEV), yet is a regular gasoline car. It's the old clunkers and big trucks that are the main problem, but I don't really see a way around using diesel trucks to transport everything. Also, I think a lot of it simply has to do with the somewhat bowl-shaped landscape, and there is nothing we can do about that. I am also bothered that so many people think electric cars will solve all the problems. I don't think we need to be ramping up the use of electricity without real solutions in place to provide that electricity need. Newer gasoline cars are plenty clean enough to make a big difference.
I do think this is an important issue, and there are things people can do about it. If you have an old car, get a newer one, but I won't be telling people they have to do it, or give someone a cookie because they get an efficient car (the carpool endorsement is enough IMO). Carpool if you can. I also think this is a problem that will naturally start to be resolved as we move more into the future and people keep buying newer cars.
The main problem to me though, is big trucks. I know there have been some innovations with them, but I simply don't see companies shelling out the money to replace their inneficient machines. I'm not sure that there will be much improvement here any time soon unfortunately.
