When BYU first started it, they combined the position into one,
a la BYU being cheapskates. Most programs separate the two. The two combine a lot of duties and work together, but the director of recruiting will usually be over visits, coordinating recruiting travel, tracking all communicating, etc. They coordinate the efforts. DPP will work in recruiting with film evaluation mostly, and help with some of those things, managing the recruiting database, etc. NFL liaison.
There's no one set thing and duties can be interchangeable to a point.
Glad BYU finally expanded their staff a bit. The size of the staff was pathetic.
