That sounds like an empty threat
I'm guessing it would cost far more to cancel the football season then what they earn; not to mention the penalties they'd face if they cancelled the season (both for OOC games and from the SEC). Beyond that, it would be political suicide to force the cancellation of LSU football for a season.
