The former CBS Evening News anchor has a new “documentary” on the gun control debate titled “Under the Gun”, which is to say that it is a piece of shallow gun control propaganda.
Couric’s film includes her interviewing members of the Virginia Citizens Defense League. Off camera, she asks, “Let me ask you another question: If there are no background checks for gun purchasers, how do you prevent felons or terrorists from purchasing a gun?”
The film then shows awkward silence as gun rights supporters look uncomfortable and glance down at their shoes. The film cuts to the next scene, leaving Couric’s question unanswered.
Fortunately, the Virginia Citizens Defense League came to the interview armed, with a tape recorder. Audio of the interview provided to the Washington Free Beacon proves that members of the group immediately answered Couric’s question, and debated background checks for another four minutes.
Couric didn’t like how gun rights supporters answered her question. So she pretended that she stumped them. What was Couric’s director’s excuse for the hack job pulled in the editing bay?
“My intention was to provide a pause for the viewer to have a moment to consider this important question,” Stephanie Soechtig, the director, explained.
