It is dependant on the conference bylaws. The MWC requires
A school to exit the conference on June 30 and it requires a 12 month notice. If notice is not given the school is required to pay an additional fee of 2x of its last year's revenue.
AAC schools have it a lot worse. It is a 27 month notice with no buyout for early departure (after all was said and done West Virginia paid $20m to leave early)
