Tom Holmoe - Sainthood and Cannonization Process

Becoming a saint is not easy. It is a long and difficult process and requires lifelong dedication. The person must go through a step by step process  I submit to the Congregation of Cougarboard: Tom Holmoe

Worthy Servant: The person must be possessed with what is known as “heroic virtue.”

So the question is, does Tom have Heroic virtue? Evidence: In 1980, he led the WAC with seven interceptions. He helped BYU win the conference championship in each of his four seasons at BYU. This period of domination set BYU up for its future success.  His performances should be worthy of recognition by the current players (another criteria of heroic virtue).  In my opinion, the answer to whether Tom has heroic virtue or not, must be an emphatic YES. Thus, I submit Tom Holmoe as a worthy servant.

Venerable:  Upon a finding that Mr. Holmoe is a worthy servant, this finding is sent to the Congregation of Cougarboard. This group, issues a statement that either attests to the “heroic virtue” of the person or denies it. From this stage it is essential that verifiable miracles must occur. The miracle must be investigated and proven to be impossible outside of divine explanation.

In the case of Tom, we have several. First, a BYU DB was drafted (4th round) into the NFL. This just doesn't happen. Second, not only was he drafted, but he played significantly, and won Superbowls in 1984, 1988, and 1989. These accomplishments may seem possible outside of divine explanation, but once we consider his race (white) and religion (Mormon), we must acknowledge his career as a verifiable miracle.  Upon a finding by the Congregation of Cougarboard that Tom is “Venerable,” he is proclaimed to be “Blessed”, the final stage before being declared a saint.

Final Requirement: The final requirement requires one more confirmed miracle.

Tom is very close on this one.  Should the Big12 come to pass, Tom will have satisfied all criteria for sainthood. As is the tradition, if Tom can satisfy this last requirement, he shall be a saint and assigned a feast day, which may be celebrated throughout all Cougar-dom.

I submit Tom to the Congregation of Cougarbard for a finding that he is "Venerable" and "Blessed." Should he complete his final miracle--Big12 Membership--he will be forthwith known as Saint Tom.
