"Distance shouldn't be an issue
Full disclosure, I’m a BYU fan. I’m excited to watch WVU and BYU play this year and possibly on a regular schedule in the future if they join the league.

I just have two beefs with the article. First, the sports writer is worried about the distance new teams will bring to the league. Wasn’t WVU aware of how far away the rest of the league was already before you joined? If was the price you paid to join the Big 12. If distance was an issue, why join the Big 12 in the first place?

BYU traveled further than any other team last year except for Hawaii. BYU fans would come out of the woodwork to watch a game at WVU. President Gee is BYU alumni, I’m sure he’d show up with a BYU shirt under his WVU jacket. BYU would be great for the league as a whole.

Adding BYU might add one extra hour of flight time compared to the normally scheduled Big 12 opponent, but WVU will be getting extra revenue money to cover it with new members taking a reduced cut initially. Giving WVU athletes a chance to play in the shadows of real mountains would be memorable.

Second beef, the sports writer is worried about adding more competitive teams to the league. You want to make the league worse but adding inferior teams that WVU can beat up on year after year? Your criteria directly conflicts the criteria the Big 12 established last week. Adding cup cakes to the league only gives Oklahoma and Texas more reasons to leave for greener pastures in a few years.
