You can add a couple more things
- For 2 years in addition to not getting hardly any physical development in - they also are being trained how to be nice and kind - not necessarily traits that lead to being aggressive, violent football players
- Practically all players that go on missions takes nearly a year of hard physical training to get in football shape again
- Some lose the desire for football or competing and just end up quitting
- Many missionaries go to countries where they catch weird sicknesses and diseases that can have devastating physical effects on them.


Actually I think the best way to deal with Desmond on this issue is with kindness. I would invite him to visit some of our football players on missions and have him see what things are really like. Because of his very insensitive comments this might open up an opportunity to share with him and ESPN viewers the true picture of what it's like for missionaries and BYU Football having to deal with missions. Like many have said already - if it was so great why aren't other teams pushing this on their players?
