B1G used for years; 8+2. 8 conference games, 2 teams you don't play. they rotate straight through, and try to split up the rotation so no team ever has 2 misses against top or bottom teams (i.e. don't skip OSU and MSU, or Purdue and Indiana) in the same season to try and keep schedules somewhat balanced. It makes for a modified round-robin possible, but still has scheduling quirks.
