Even though he started two games as a sophomore, he had more growing pains as a junior.

He finished with a 1 to 1 TD:int ratio, 18-18. And an 8-4 record, including a humiliating bowl loss, 47-17, worst in school history. It was the only time from 1976-1985 BYU had less than 9 wins in a season.

Marc Wilson, hit the ground running, Jim McMahon had a monster junior year, Robbie Bosco and Ty Detmer were great their first year as starters.

That is the problem with Young. His complete body of work. It is the same thing we go through with Steve Sarkisian and Luke Staley. Unforgettable final season, but the year(s) before were a little below our standards.

We don't deny any of these guys elite status, but when we rank them among their elite peers, it hurts their case.
