Anyone else sitting in section 416 on Saturday? Game is a big deal for my son.
Its on the top level on Arizona side near 10-20 yard line. I finally bought tickets for the game last night, in Row 3 of that section. They were only $28 each (but somehow total bill for 2 tickets came out to $95 with all the fees added). It will just be me and my 8 year old son.

First time for him not only going to a BYU game, but any football game. I've had a hard time getting him excited for sports and I've tried to not push him too hard to like things he's not really into. But he loves watching the highlight videos with me and I've got him to the point where he's been really excited to go this game. I don't have a lot a disposable income right now so I've been on the fence for buying tickets, but finally made the decision since it might be a while before he goes to another BYU game.

We had a really neat experience over the summer when we took our first family trip to Utah. We were in Provo going to some of the museums and when we saw the stadium we decided to just stop by and take a few pictures. We noticed the gate on the Northwest corner was open, so we just walked in to take some pictures on the field. As soon as we walked in we turned around and Troy Warner came walking up to us. I immediately recognized him and we talked for a minute. Then right behind him came Russell Tialavea and Vince Feula. Russell was extremely friendly. Apparently there was some kind of kids summer camp going on that day, and Russell assumed we were a part of that. When I explained that we weren't he invited us to participate, as the next session would be starting about an hour later. I commented that I'm sure there was a cost for this that we hadn't paid for (turns out it was like $105/kid) and he said "don't worry about it, just show up and I'll make sure everything is cool". I was hesitant cause it didn't seem fair that so many other parents had to pay for their kids to have this experience, but he insisted and the kids were excited for it.

So we left for a few minutes to check out the BYU bookstore and grab some lunch in the Wilkinson food court, and then came back when the camp started. My son was scared to do any of the drills on the field (because he was afraid he’d do them all wrong and get laughed at) and he just wanted to sit in the stands. His little 6 year old sister had no problem jumping in there with all the boys (there were like 3 other girls among about 100 boys participating, and she loved it). When Kalani saw my son just sitting in the stands he came over to see what was wrong, and as I explained he was a little too shy/scared to participate, Kalani put his arm around him and offered some encouraging words. My son decided to go down to the field but was still not willing to jump into the drills. He was very impressed by all of the BYU players on the field. The most impressive was Corbin Kaufusi, who looked extremely imposing and clearly had bulked up over the summer, he looked bigger in person than Bronson looked on TV and in pictures. My son told Kalani we were from Arizona and we were going to go to the Arizona game. Kalani then told him he needed us there, to support the team. So ever since then my son has been looking forward to the game, believing what Kalani said, and that if we weren’t there the team wouldn’t win.

I should have bought our tickets sooner, we probably could have had some nice seats on the BYU side, but I kept thinking I could save some more and get better seats then the cheap ones at the top. The good news is that the stadium is designed in such a way that even at the top the view is pretty good, and you don’t feel so far from the field.

Anyway, we’ll be there in section 416 on the third row, hopefully among more BYU fans then Arizona fans. I do have to say that I am very impressed with Kalani, his humility is real, and I got the feeling from the short time we talked that he is very passionate toward BYU, and genuinely cares not only for all the players, but all the fans as well. Looking forward to the start of a new and exciting era in BYU football, and happy to bring my kids along to hopefully make lifelong fans out of them as well.
