We told our kids very clearly that its not just those that actually do mean things who bear responsibility, but those who stand by and let it happen without doing anything to stop it. We told them "if you don't try to stop it, you are agreeing with it." We're not great at consistently having FHE but this was one lesson we knew we wanted our kids to learn well.

I sincerely hope we can raise kids who will not only refuse to participate in teasing but who will actively try to help those who are targeted by others or who, even if not targeted, may not be completely accepted.

Kids can be definitely be mean, but they can also be amazing.
