If BYU were independent in 2006, the season would've essentially been over after the loss at Boston College. But the team continued to gel , won the MWC, and is now considered one of BYU's best teams ever. That luxury doesn't exist as an independent. I'm not saying I prefer being in the MWC, but the possibility of winning a championship really keeps things interesting at the end of the season.
