I know many of you disagree with my post, but hear out my reasoning.
Kickers can be head-cases, and Almond missed a PAT this season, so I worried about his confidence going in to kick the game-winning field goal. I really, really didn't want it to come down to him.

BYU could have called a TO with 12 seconds left on the clock and run one more play on 3rd down. Yes, I'm aware that if you don't score a TD or throw an incomplete pass the game is over. I also believe many of you think passing automatically means high-risk, but you can do a very low-risk passing play in that situation.

I would have lined up Taysom in the shotgun and have him immediately roll out right. Send your outside receiver on a fade, slot receiver runs a slant, you go double tight end with one tight end running an arrow route and the other running a drag. If Taysom rolls out and faces immediate pressure, he can throw it through the back of the endzone right away. If he has a little time, see if the arrow route is open, if he has a little more time and the arrow is covered, see if the dragging tight end opens up. Obviously as the QB you don't force any pass, you only throw it if the route is WIDE OPEN. If you don't have an easy completion or face any kind of pressure, you throw it into the stands and kick the field goal.

If not that, it would also have made sense to call TO just to have a little time on the clock in case of a bad hold or snap. Once again, I know many of you disagree, but I was worried sick that Almond was going to choke. Just thought I'd clarify what type of play I was thinking (not that any of you actually care) Luckily he kicked it through and we don't have to be playing the woulda shoulda coulda mental game again.
