Here's a story for you.
I'm a huge BYU fan, but I'm also a supporter of all Utah sports having lived in Utah for 10 years of my childhood. So after moving to the Valley of the Sun (Phoenix, AZ), Yewtah went to the Fiesta Bowl. My Christmas gift that year were tickets to the game and a red Yewtah hoodie and hat. It was an amazing game to attend, and yes it is strange that even at that game there were BYU Hater shirts. In fact, one gentleman with a nice bald head had "BYU sucks!" painted on the back of his head. My Dad and I thought that was peculiar so we had to see the face of this guy. It became hilarious as we discovered that this man was our former neighbor from Utah that was actually a recent convert to the Church of JC of LDS! It was crazy, so we talked to him for a while and had a nice reunion. We teased him about his head, but he was enjoying himself--anyway besides this point.

A couple years later, I was up in the Provo area to get some wisdom teeth pulled by a research group and I had a few friends that attended BYU, so I was able to secure one of their football game tickets to go see BYU crush AFA. More than 24 hours after getting my wisdom teeth pulled I was getting ready to go to the game, and guess what I realized I had packed in my bag--my red Yewtah hoodie. I had nothing else, and it was cold that morning. I wore the hoodie and a winter coat I borrowed from my aunt to cover most of it. I joined my friends in the student section to watch the game. As the sun got higher, it got hotter, so I was dying to pull the female winter coat off with leopard-patterned fur along the edges. I was left with my Yewtah hoodie, and surprisingly no one really said anything. One student said something to me, and I told him "Go Cougs!" and he stopped. I admit that I felt super awkward, and once the day became even warmer, I removed the Yewtah hoodie.

I'm sharing this story to illustrate that you never know the background. I did receive a number of evil glares, but I'm thankful for how most people responded to me. Going through high school in Arizona, I would've been jumped for doing something like that at a rival school--probably would've in Utah also. But the BYU students were most generous and respectful.
