Jergens didn't spike the ball. The FG play was 2nd down after Taysom spiked the
ball. Taysom missed Laulu-Pututau in the flat on 3rd down. The 4th down was the failed Hail-Mary.
BSU did call a timeout sometime to ice the kicker. They had one timeout left. I'm unsure when the 2nd timeout was taken, but if BSU inappropriately ran onto the field to celebrate, a timeout wouldn't save that.
The refs screwed up.

If memory serves correctly, Jergens got the ball and lined the O up to spike it. Boise, totally discombobulated
