The big teams could easily make more independent than in a conference

Texas, USC, Oklahoma, Florida State, Ohio State, Michigan, etc would all make significantly more than they make in a conference now.

I guess it's about access, but those schools would have access regardless of conference affiliation.

Had ND not made the deal with the ACC, then I think that an annual game would have been more likely.
