I'll won't try to explain my jump to that conclusion from this story but you can try to see my thinking if you want.
I had a scholarship while there and deferred it a semester for some reason. This put me in a summer situation. I verifies with the scholarship people that I could take three credits one qtr and 6 the next as I was saving up to buy a home and needed to work a little more. All was good. Then in the middle of fall semester I get a bill asking me to repay my scholarship because I didn't enroll in enough credits. I went back and forth with two different offices and it included one office writing a letter on my behalf stating they had advised me to do it and that the scholarship should still apply. The other office refused to do so so I ended up having to take another semester off to repay that lost scholarship. It led to me eventually leaving and going to UVHS, er, UVSC and graduation from there. Bottom line is that the way BYU lacked in their communication led to ripping me off and reinforcing my negative attitude towards their operating procedures.
With regards to Cody Hoffman, or any other BYU athlete for that matter, I wish they would err on the side of common sense and not be so rigid in their procedures. Should it really have taken as long as it did for Jim McMahon?
