I guess it depends on the industry. If you are in a contract that has a hard
Deadline you have very little to no time to choose a day to skip. More than not when self employed and time constraints are involved even sickness has to be put on the back burner.

On the other hand if an employee wants a day off for a child being sick or themselves not feeling up to coming into work there is no stopping it. If you try to you could very well end up in deep trouble with just about every employment protection agency out there.

I have employees that have had dead lines who have called in sick or had family members that were sick and were no shows at work. Absolutely nothing could be done but numero uno jumping in on double shift to retain the customer. And if I hadn't I wouldn't have any use for the employee because I wouldn't have had work enough for him. But guess what... if I had not done that I wouldn't be able to fire him without having to pay for his unemployment.

So if you mean we have more flexibility because we can throw $$$$ in the trash I'd have to disagree because they could too.
