I have a brother-in-law doctor... by the time he was done with his residency
he had a 6 year-old and 4 year-old that he barely knew. He basically kissed them on the head while they were sleeping late late at night and that was the extent of his interaction with them for the first few years of their lives. Even now, 10 years later, he tells everyone he regrets becoming a doctor. According to him, losing out on the first few years of his kids' lives was too high a cost.
