be any scholarships, they will have to pay for everything themselves like all other students do. So if you get paid $100k at USC but tuition for the year is $65K, plus books, private tutors (because those won't be free anymore), healthcare (because that won't be free either)....plus food and housing....not too long before the kid is upside down big time. Not counting the tax bill.
No school has the funds to pay them regular pay plus scholarships. Most of the big schools have debt burdens, academic burdens (yes some programs must give back to academics every year) not counting the regular headcount, benefits and expenses.
It would fundamentally change the game and probably eliminate 50% of all the FBS programs out there. BYU for sure would just close down the ADs office as would most of the more academic minded schools. $100M might sound like a lot, but when the president of those schools is running a $2B budget athletics just aren't that important. Research is where the real money comes from.
