Fundamentals
FOCUS ON FUNDAMENTALS: Linebacker Butch Pau’u was asked what word would describe this year’s defense.
“Fundamentals will probably be the biggest one. You don’t have to worry about us being aggressive or playing physical,” Pau’u said. “That’s something that comes second nature to us. That was our biggest weakness last year, we let too many big plays happen, and that was due to not (playing) sound fundamentals and not being in the right position at the right time.”
Already 2nd nature, being aggressive and playing physical (which I see a lot more with this team). With this being the focus for 2017,the 8 pt loss to teams last year, will be changed. So a 9-4 2016 in my mind can easily be 11-2. Fundamentals, when learned and applied correctly with the nature of being aggressive and physical has the makings of 2017 being a great year.
Here is how I see the 2017 breakout...from more difficult to easier (easy, who are we fooling here)
Most difficult
LSU (SEC) Neutral BYU loss
WISC (B10) Home (BYU win by 3 pts)
Utah (Pac12) Home (BYU win). 2016 by 1 pt. Utah DE blew up Edie and Taysom should of passed on a slant to the WR. Run all the way.
MSU (SEC) Away (I can see BYU winning this game, but not sure right now). Let's say a loss.
2nd Tier
BSU (WAC) home BYU win (payback boys!)
USU (WAC) Cowville BYU win
Can go 2nd Tier or not
East Carolina (away) BYU win
San Jose State (away) BYU win
Frenso State (away) BYU win
Hawaii (away) BYU win, BYU rack up more polys.
Bottom of the barrel folks
UNLV (WAC) away, but more BYU fans anyway, so another home game for BYU. BYU win
Portland (first game of the 2017 season) Home. Any question NOT a BYU win?
UMASS (home) Same as Portland, blow out. BYU win
