Few is one of the best coaches in the game and has to be considered the best coach in the WCC
for you to call him a clown is really bad form. He does not come across to me as the kind of coach who just gets T'd up because of his temper. That being said. He was called for the foul with Gonzaga ahead by 8. So it is possible that he may indeed lost his cool for a moment. Regardless he has built an incredible program. Gonzaga has been ranked for most of the past 3 years and held the #1 ranking for 4 weeks. Despite BYU being Gonzaga's kryptonite at home Few's Zags are the top of the heap in WCC and have been for most of his tenure as coach. He is a gracious coach and I don't think has ever intentionally disrespected any opposing coach or team. Despite his technical foul and jawing at the refs (something all coaches do to one degree or another) after the game, he did not blame the refs, but credited BYU for their toughness and play. Few has chosen to stay at Gonzaga and has built them into a power. He almost certainly could have gone to a bigger program and climbed the coaching ladder, but instead he has stayed at a small school and turned them into a national power. This Gonzaga team has final 4 talent. As I said in another thread, this loss came at just the right time for the Zags, and it is probable that they will not lose again before the tourney, and will get a #1 seed. If they lose in Vegas, tney will drop to a #2 seed.

But for you to say that the calls were 75/25 bad calls in favor of Gonzaga can only be seen from blue colored glasses. BYU was whistled for 22 fouls to 17 for Gonzaga. This is not that big of a disparity when you consider that BYU settled for many more mid range jumpers than they normally do. Mika, as a point of strategy, took more open mid range jumpers especially when the bearded rock was on him because he knew that he could not bang with him for the entire game. When you are not as aggressive inside, you are not going to get as many fouls called in your favor. Were there some bad foul calls? OF COURSE, especially against Childs, but I did not feel like the officiating went against BYU, and in fact it was the fact that the refs let them play and did not call as many touch fouls that helped BYU be more physical against Gonzaga and kind of disrupt their game, especially in the last 10 minutes.

IF BYU wins vs LMU and the likely SMC, I think they will push Gonzaga again, as they have in their first two games. Even in its loss in the MC BYU closed the gap to 6 at one point and lost by 10 which was the narrowest victory for Gonzaga in WCC play. So, BYU seems to mach up better against Gonzaga than any team in the WCC and for whatever reason, is less intimidated by the Zags than any other team in the WCC. I do think that Gonzaga is still the better team and will likely win in the WCC championship, but I will never count out this team. Despite their up and down season, this BYU team is improving.

My only request is that the officials ref every game in the same fashion they did the BYU-Gonzaga game. Call enough fouls to keep everyone honest, and under control, but be let the kids play and call it both ways. I think they did last Saturday and wish it was that way most games.
