Outlawing Pit Bulls would be a HUGE mistake.
That just pushes the breed underground and makes the remaining dogs even more dangerous. It doesn't get rid of the breed and it doesn't address the real problem that society has in not responsibly understanding animal aggression. If animal aggression and all the factors that play a role were addressed, these scenarios wouldn't happen. That being said, these situations are much more rare than domestic violence. Singling out races or profiles that have a higher tendency for domestic violence does not get to the root of the problem. It's all in how children are raised and taught. Same with puppies. A puppy that isn't socialized properly regardless of the breed can be a big problem. All dogs are wired to be predators. It isn't just Pit Bulls. Humans are stupid and anthropomorphize animals far too frequently. If you are going to legislate something regarding dog ownership, it should regulate more factors than just the breed. It shouldn't involve muzzles or chains, because that creates more psychological problems. If dog owners had to pass an animal test like drivers have to pass a driving test, dog mauling instances would decrease to almost nothing. Wait....statistically it already is almost nothing.
