watching the HS film of Ula Tolutau he has a very interesting
stance pre-snap. he does a classic 3 point stance which is becoming more rare from a tailback, then he drops his behind all the way to the ground.

Almost all runners who do a 3 point stance have their behinds high with a forward lean, almost like a sprinter at the starting line. Tolutau seems to use his unique stance to spring up and forward.

Pure speculation but it seems like a potential advantage, with him basically sitting up and compact he can see the line and potential defensive movements more easily like tailbacks that start standing, yet gets the spring and quick first step from starting from a 3 point stance, he almost jumps forward on his starts.

at the 1:20 and 4:12 marks in his film you can see it really well.

I saw a post earlier predicting he becomes the all-time leading rusher at BYU. I'm not in that boat because, well, I'm sane and he's never played a down of college ball, but the guy has some crazy talent and I'm excited to see him on the field.

Looking at the all-time rushers list for the NCAA Jamaal comes in at #144 with his 3,901. BYU has always been a team that played upperclassmen in the past and we were a pass first team as well so it's no surprise that as the team has changed to more run over the past 2 decades that we've seen the rush record broke a couple times, and if Unga had played his senior year the rushing record would be much higher.

Reality is though, to break BYU's rushing record a player must come in and be an ok rusher for 2 years and above average rusher for 2 years or a very talented rusher for 3 years with the key being to stay healthy and be the primary back.

for example, this would do it.
Just consistent, nothing crazy.

Freshman: 750 yards
Sophmore: 900 yards
Junior: 1100 yards
Senior: 1200 yards

I don't know that Tolutau is that guy, he could be, but I'm betting the record goes down again sometime in the next decade with how much I think we'll be running the ball in Ty's offense.
