It was a nice way of saying stop being a fan[atic]. Settle for less so you can always guarantee a pretend form of happiness due to never being let down. Imagine if all of fandom was like that. Wouldn't be any fun at all. Shoot, imagine if coaches and players had that attitude. They would have never provided the exiting seasons fans enjoy in the first place. There would be no NC for fans 33 years later to look back on. There would be no Heisman. There would be no 96.
