Did u just build a home? Or fixing one up? If u built, often times the builders landscaping connections are on the higher end when it comes to cost. Builder/contractor wants a "referral fee" or a % so thats included in the bids. Regardless of what route u take, find a well reviewed company on your own and if they do good work they should let u see past clients yards showing their work. Definitely ask if theyll do that. Only takes few mins for them to call some past clients and ask if they'd mind if you just saw the yard. Plus it can give u a sneaky opportunity to ask the client directly about their experience.
