It seems like being a BYU fan means always looking back at how close we were to something special.
1996 - stupid loss at the beginning of the season to Washington. One of the greatest defenses ever at BYU along with an all-time great offense and special teams.
2001 - Luke Staley's leg injury vs Miss St. All time best offense at BYU paired with a talented but highly underperforming D.
2006 - stupid slow start to the season (3pt loss to AZ, 2OT loss to BC). Great offense paired with a good D. NFL QB
2012 - season full of close, stupid losses, Boise St 6-7, Utah 21-24, ND 14-17 and San Jose St 14-20. Maybe the greatest D all-time at BYU ever paired with an offense and QB that dragged the team down like a huge anchor (sort of the opposite of 2001).
