I'm a Legacy two and have a couple of gripes if you care to hear...
For full disclosure I technically only enrolled in classes after being accepted but dropped them all week 1. My ambitions were to have my school paid for & no scholarship was available at BYU. One came available at another school so I left. I'm a Legacy 2 donor and I don't live in Utah...never have. I started donating just under 3 years ago as a legacy one and upgraded to a 2 last year. My wife and I are huge sports fans and have the time to travel to games. My letter this January stated I was #756 in line of all BYU donors. Considering that there are 30k students, hundreds of thousands of very wealthy alumni world wide I was actually alarmed that I was so high considering a few things: 1) I didnt go to BYU 2) I'm a relatively new donor 3) We are a single income house hold with 4 kids. We donate what we can and ask that it goes to bball and football equally as I want success and higher paid coaching options.

I made a call to the AD that is in charge of my membership to discuss my concerns and asked how in the world I could be so high? He had similar sentiments and agreed with my concerns. My ex graduated from Texas (UT-austin) and within a month of graduation a call center from the university began soliciting her for as little as $30 a year to be a part of the Alumni club & the Dallas Chapter and later donated a lot more and joined the Las Vegas chapter where they got together for large events, fund raising events and game watching parties where they'd even bring in a longhorn cow for the really big ones. I was blown away by the organization & great fraternity brotherhood feel of it. When I heard about the number in the active alumni club I was blown away and i'm guessing is 200x byu's (I dont know the number of total active donars for byu). For as much as the Mormon people talk about organization, charity, donating etc and for how ridiculously cheap the education is even compared to great public universities I can't believe that so little people donate and at such a low amount. I'm embarrassed for the relatively little I give as a tax write off I am where I'm at. And embarrassed that for how little it is to join the basic Y membership that we don't have hundreds of thousands as well. The local chapters should be having huge parties all over the country
