I like cats. They're low maintence, and they don't hang around all the time.
You don't need to take them outside to poop, and you don't need to take them on walks or exercise them. They just show up every once in a while and keep you company.

I loved when my neighbors had outside cats, we had no mice. They moved and we've had mice ever since.
