Honest question: does it seem a little inconsistent that a player isn't healthy
enough for the physical rigors of missionary service, but is healthy enough to play one of the most taxing and competitive sports at a level extremely few can? I agree that this is a little of a cheap shot from the Aggie fan base (but not a cheap shot many in our fan base are above).

But it still doesn't clarify in my mind how someone who isn't well enough to serve a mission is well enough to play basketball. I know missions aren't exactly easy, but with some level of competent self-discipline, I'm guessing at least 75% (probably more like 90%) of all 18-24 year old LDS kids who live the gospel are physically fit enough to serve a mission. Those who aren't physically able to serve, with all due respect, typically have significant health issues. I don't know the actual stats, but of the 15+ MILLION members of the church, it's only the top .5% (more likely top 0.05%) who are athletically gifted enough to play a D1 sport. The statistical probability that 40% of next season starting line up may be players not healthy enough to serve a mission, but gifted enough to play D1 basketball is mind boggling. It seems likely that we are not getting the full story - most likely to protect the players in question and their right to privacy and agency, which is right.
