Their schedule isn't horrible. They played USC, UCLA, Stanford twice, Penns State, LBSU and UCI. That's
just out of conference teams. The MIVA has Lewis and Loyola Chicago that have decent teams, but that's about it. Ball state isn't bad either. In my book they pass the "tough schedule" test.
LBSU may have a tougher schedule no doubt, but OSU doesn't have a horrible one.
Any non-MPSF team knows they have it easy when compared to MPSF conference play. No doubt about that...
AVCA rankings aren't in consideration at all (I believe) when it comes to seeding. I don't necessarily disagree w/ the intent of your comment, that it seems unfair. But based on the measurements the NCAA uses, OSU had more going for them...
I definitely have my complaints with the selection committee over the years. The year they snubbed Pepperdine for Lewis, still pisses me off! Pepperdine, who was 3rd in the AVCA got snubbed for a Lewis team that was #7 (maybe even worse) in the same poll. And they claimed Pepperdine didn't play enough OOC games to claim the last at-large bid. Ridiculous...
