They all get docked in our bedroom at night too and have major parental restrictions limiting what they can do. We never have any struggles at all with it.

If there is a struggle for you, I suspect you haven't made it sufficiently clear who owns the devices. They belong to the parents. The have the devices so that 1) we can call and text them whenever we want, 2) the devices can help with homework, and 3) they aren't completely cut off from their friend networks. They aren't toys.
