Not a good sign if we hire him, but unfortunately might be the best option
I was hoping for someone that could potentially be a head coach. I don't think he's capable of being a successful head coach in a major program, and he's not even an option at BYU.

From some friends that are WY fans (where he was head coach and failed after BYU) I've heard:
"Not a high character person."
"He had no problem throwing players under the bus"
"Bad coach. Kids not going to class. ... No discipline ... But he might be good as an assistant."
"I couldn't be happier if BYU were to hire him" (from a BYU hater)

Those fans' opinions are biased. I don't actually know him well enough to have a set opinion. I'd really like to hear from someone who knew him well when he was at BYU, like a former player.

I'm now thinking my hopes for a good assistant that could be in the head coaching pool in a few years are too lofty. Maybe we need to settle as there's no better option for assistant now. Maybe he gives us a few years of discipline and defensive improvement and then leaves when Rose leaves. If hired, hopefully he makes the program a little better. Until we hear, I'll hold on to some hope for a better guy.
