First of all, I get why they made some of the moves they did. They cut roughly 10% of their on-air force. Katz and others have bigger paychecks. They aren't out to cut people, but dollars. And because they need warm bodies to fill their airspace, they need cheaper labor. If they took all the current hacks at ESPN that aren't great at what they do, they'd have to cut about 60% of their workforce, and then they wouldn't have programming.
But they also didn't cut a lot of the fat that most, I think, would get on board with. Some of the moves are just perplexing.
Where I think they got it right:
Jane Mcmanus - she just doesn't clearly articulate things very well.
Trent Dilfer
Ashley Fox
Brett McMurphy - he has some inside connections, but nowadays it seems that whoever replaces him will get the inside connections simply by job title.
Chantel Jennings
Chris Berman
But, there are some clear misses here IMO.
Jay Crawford
Andy Katz
Danny Kanell
To a lesser extent, Brian Bennett, Jaymee Sire, Jade McCarthy, Steve Dehlson (OTL), and Max Olson.
Who they should have removed a long time ago (maybe I missed it and they did cut them):
Steven A. Smith
Dan Le Batard (seriously, please tell me I'm wrong and that he's gone)
Dick Vitale
Mark Jackson (and to a lesser extent, the rest of the NBA on ESPN crew, including Van Gundy)
Jemele Hill, Michael Smith
Bill Walton (my understanding is he works for both P12 and ESPN when ESPN covers P12 games)
Bomani Jones (constantly playing the race/SJW card)
Mel Kiper/Todd McShay (analyze who has been less inaccurate and just have one draft guru, preferably McShay)
Brian Windhorst
Lee Corso (if he's not already gone)
Darren Rovell
Mark May
Jay Bilas (at least if you're going to fire Katz)
Did I miss any?
