Is one out of three good enough for you?
Why do you think that. Is Utah a hotbed for basketball talent like it is for football? I myself go back to the Harmon article and wonder how much ground has been lost by not being aggressive recruiters and I hate to say that phrase because so many of you believe it is Merlin's magic potion and that it will cure anything. It spurred Gary Crowton onto lesser lights. I am not saying DRose is with out some faults that Dick Harmon outlined but I'm willing to go a few more years and and see how it "plays out"(Greg Wrubell). the power brokers now are the all star(AAU) coaches that harvest and pamper talented kids into thinking they are more talented than they really are or in some cases expose kids from lesser lights to brighter light where they bloom like wonder plants. I was a small town coach years ago and saw this developing. They actually try to recruit or herd kids to their preferred coach or assistant coach or themselves. Club athletics is actually more prominent among girls sports. Volleyball, softball, soccer and basketball. It's where all these girls earn their schollies. I think that is where Dave needs some help in an accomplished HS or AAU coach (they are interchangeable these days) to fly his flag and encourage kids to look BYU's way. Football has their camps and the Y staff is thoroughly embedded in the All Poly camp that helps them judge and attract talent. 30 Years ago it was camps. I remember seeing all the big college
names like Georgetown's Thomson at a camp in Torrance Cal. The 3 days camps are not a open, pay your money and hopefully get recognized, anymore. It's club ball with a few "invitees" only camp. Somebody that walks those streets could be helpful to Cougar cause. Sure D Rose gets to see LDS talent at his own camp, but if you're talking about expending your search net you need to club ball friendly.
