My 5 year old: "Sister X has a talking ape!"
The family my wife visit teaches has been having a few problems. Apparently he was asked to telecommute because clients would notice him when touring the office. He's been struggling to get into a groove, and has been sleeping in later and later or just wandering the house. The wife notices that when the visiting teachers are over, he clamps down and works, so she asked my wife to come over and bring my 5 year old for a play date yesterday morning. Seems like it didn't go too well.

Here's the story they told me at dinner:

When my wife came over, the kids wanted to go upstairs. Sister X asked her boy to open daddy's room and make sure he was awake. He ran up the stairs to do so. My 5 year old followed a few seconds behind. He stopped at the open room, and there was Brother X in his full glory. He later told me he had just gotten out of the shower. Brother X is a nice enough guy, but he's a little weird. He's always wearing a long-sleeved shirt, even to the ward barbecue last week. My wife pointed out his hairy hands once. Apparently the hands aren't the only thing that's hairy. My boy just stood there gawking, until Brother X started to talk. The kid booked it out of the room. He found his friend and said, "There's a talking ape in that room!". The moms had made their way up the stairs when they heard all the commotion, and in a whispered voice Sister X explained that Brother X has a lot of body hair, and asked the boys not to talk about it again because it might hurt his feelings.

It was a good chuckle and I want to tell someone, but I've been told I can't tell anyone I know in case it makes it back to Brother X. No harm in telling a bunch of strangers on an anonymous message board, right?
