It became apparent that we could get some things done controlling the ball and featuring Jamaal. Taysom and the receivers weren't executing the air attack in the way I'm sure Ty would have liked, so we scaled the passing way down and relied on the ground game and Hill's occasional play-making ability. This complimented our defensive strength. It was enough to have us in every single game--just not quite enough to win 'em all.
I believe people forget that it often took good players a year or two in order to be effective in Lavell's old passing attack. The offense required a lot of reads, and it took players time to get it down. I expect this will be the case with what Ty is attempting to implement. I don't see why we can't expect players to be much better at executing in year 2, and having Tanner slinging the ball shouldn't hurt either.
I do not expect a passing circus--Ty himself just said we were going to hit you in the mouth with our running attack if "your 'backers are 220." But I don't think it's a stretch or a pipe dream to expect more productivity through a more proficient, sophisticated air attack.
