Your OP and subsequent responses are written with the assumption that consevatism is the baseline. Which I think contributes to why so-called liberal contrarians exist here.
The board is right leaning, absolutely. Which leads to many conservative posters relying on that to try to push liberals off the board. There's two sides to the coin.
I don't think we as BYU grads should just assume that our fellow BYU alumni are right leaning because that's what our experience is. There are lots and lots of BYU alumni/LDS liberals. Assuming conservatism is the baseline doesn't produce any good in my opinion - both in coming to rational consensus and in engaging in civil discussion with the other side.
I see your point though and understand I might be extrapolating a bit. It was, however, the feel I got from your OP.
