I guess it depends on how you define "average or better"....but most would say that a bowl eligible team is at least average:
I would say that 8 wins is better than average. 43% of BYU's P5 opponents were "better than average" and 60% were "average or better."
Only 24% of BYU's P5 opponents had 4 wins or fewer
10+ wins = 4 or 13%
9+ wins = 9 or 30%
8+ wins = 13 or 43%
7+ wins = 15 or 50%
6+ wins = 18 or 60%
5+ wins = 23 or 76%
<6 wins = 12 or 40%

Look at those teams we lost to that season- with a backup QB we still should have won- not ridiculous at all-
