Happened to my kid when he was 3-4.
I did some research on it because it kind of freaked me out.
It is not uncommon for 2-5 year olds. They don't know what's going on. It's a form of sleep walking. Trying to interact with them or console them makes it worse. Just watch them and make sure they don't physically hurt themselves. They'll grow out of it. It's been about a year since his last episode.
