Speith bogies three of his first four holes. Gets a birdie but still finishes the front 9 at +3 and things did not look good. Then he hits a duffer of a tee shot on 13, takes a penalty stroke and is staring a possible double bogie in the face. But he scrambles for bogie. That seemed to settle him down and he goes birdie-eagle-birdie- birdie par to finish at -1 69. Simply amazing.
The ghost of the 2016 Masters seemed to be rising on 13, but Spieth was able to beat that ghost into the ground, closed out his first Open Championship in what will become legendary fashion.
That was incredible. Almost gets a hole in one at 14, then a 45 foot eagle and then two more birdies. That was fun to watch.
Only the second player in golf history to win 3 majors before the age of 24. The other? Jack Nicklaus.
I'm listening to his speech, and he's a class act. Gracious deferential.
