We were up there last week and saw hundreds of Buffalo and Elk, a few coyotes, a wolf and her pups and all kinds of birds. Only thing we missed on was a bear. We visited Hayden Valley and were about an hour late seeing a mother and her two cubs rolling down to the Yellowstone River for a drink.
I have never been one of those people that will sit and wait to see an animal walk out of the woods, but we did it a few times and it paid off. Glad I took my binoculars and wished I had a spotting scope.
Anectdotal observation....half of the visitors in the park were Asian. Didn't see a single African American or Hispanic family in the park over six days. The rest were white Euro's and white Americans. Weird mix.
A lot of stupid people getting too close to Buffalo and Elk. Actually saw people trying to sneak up on animals! Nothing better than tourist stealth mode I guess.
Gross out factor in the park....back to Asians....they just can't figure out that you don't squat on a toilet seat, you sit on it! Then when the bathroom is full they just take a dump and pee all over the floor(women's restroom). My wife will be scarred for life after seeing four or five dookies just sitting on the floor bathed in urine. I rolled up to the men's room after her trauma and there were a couple of dudes guarding the door. They had their daughters using the men's restroom because the other one was literally a mess.
Great trip. Blessed to live in the West with so much outdoor beauty to enjoy. Traveling to Glacier in August and can hardly wait.
