snapbacks were in their heyday, they were the cheap hats for people who didn't want to pay more for a nice fitted hat. Fitted hats were more expensive, and snapbacks were really the only cheaper version. As a kid in the '80s, all my hats were snapbacks because I would grow out of them too fast. It was before stretch hats, and there really weren't velcro hats then either. But man, those stupid cheapo plastic pegs were always breaking, and it looks bad when your hair sticks out the back.
Now people act like they're great, and they're not even cheaper than the nicer hats, because nostalgia. It would be like VHS tapes popping up on the shelves again next to blu-rays, because it reminds people of their childhood or something.
